Robotics

Robotic cells, safe programming and access control

Industrial robots move fast and with great force, in a space the operator enters frequently for programming, tool changes or troubleshooting. The risk comes not only from the motion itself, but from its unpredictability: a robot can start a sequence at any moment, and the trajectory is not always obvious to someone inside the cell.

Effective protection combines three levels. Type 4 guard locking interlocks control access and keep the door closed until motion fully stops. Emergency stop must be accessible from any point in the cell, including from inside. And for interventions requiring presence in the hazardous zone, three-position enabling devices allow controlled machine operation.

The three-position principle is essential: the machine runs only while the switch is held in the middle position. Both sudden release and full squeeze — typical panic reactions — immediately stop motion.
